umber and ivory black, working section by section
in full color with two layers

I usually tell my students to draw the subject out directly on the canvas in pencil,

then you can spray-fix it. Here are two recent demos in the drawing stage:

This painting allows me use my favorite color,
 madder lake.  Very hard to find, I get mine from 
Naturalpigments.com.
I may try making it myself eventually 
with their dry pigment.
